Academy Awards?

Question
Just to let everyone know, I am not trying to insult ANYONE by asking this question.

When the song “It’s gettin’ hard out here for a pimp” from Hustle & Flow was performed at the 2006 Academy Awards, I hated the song, I mean I absolutely completely hated the song. I also thought about how later it was going to get really bad reviews. And then when the song was finished, I hear this THUNDEROUS applause. was it just me, or does it seem like all the white people in the audience were just clapping because they didn’t later want to be called racist by the black people who performed the song. Or, were they just trying to be polite.

AGAIN, totally not trying to offend anyone. I just read it on one of the reviews on the internet, and I was curious to see what everyone thought about it.
Or did you think that they actually enjoyed the song.

I love rap music but that song was just plain awful. I think the audience was just happy to be woken up during that boring ceremony.

Do you like rap music?? Perhaps the people in the audience were clapping because they actually liked rap??

I don’t like listening to the normal geriatric picks for best song nominees , this was a refreshing change, and some long overdue recognition of rap music in film.

i cant stand the 666 mafia an it was apauling an i dont even watch tv i think that if they didnt clap the world would hav said the most horraible review of how agregous it was but it was utterly ghetto i dont care why didnt they serve fried chicken too..

I am just speculating, but maybe the song really fit the movie well. Personally, I wasn’t impressed by the performance, although that lady can sure belt out “it’s hard out here for a pimp”. I especially thought the choreography and costuming looked tacky and poorly executed.

Maybe the magic of live performance didn’t translate through the tv screen. I have seen many plays live that I thought were awesome, only to watch the video and be sorely disappointed.

I was upset because I thought the Dolly Parton’s Travelin’ Thru was a tremendous song, and really good fit for Transamerica. I’m not even a country fan, but Dolly’s song was great for that film.

“In the Stars” from the movie Dragonheart
Answered by Ella
The song is from the movie Dragonheart, its called “To The Stars”, composed by Randy Edelman. It was the theme song. It was also used in other movies (Two Brothers) and trailers (Mulan) So its quite popular.

I was wondering the same exact thing! The answer is Forrest Gump. There is a collage of previous winners 1 hour 38 minutes into the show (where Louise Fletcher wins for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) and that piano music is from Forrest Gump.

What is the name of this song on Academy Awards commerical?

Question
I’ve been trying to find out the name of a song that I hear occasionally. It goes …We’re gonna party all night woah oh oh oh oh oh oh. At least I think that’s how it goes. I’m not so sure which artist sings it. I think it was played on the commercial for the Academy Awards tonight and I know I’ve heard it other times in the past but I just don’t know what the title is.

Well, I liked the song all right, so maybe they did too. Or maybe they were just relieved to see something out of the ordinary at the Oscars–it’s usually completely predictable. If they were clapping and really didn’t like it, I think it’s probable that they were more concerned with seeming “with it” than with not seeming racist–I would imagine most Hollywood stars are pretty comfortable with themselves in that respect.

Personally, I generally like hip hop music more for its sound than its message–after all, it’s a lot harder to be a prostitute than a pimp, but no one was talking about them. But that still doesn’t prevent me from listening to it–even though it’s sort of a guilty pleasure.
