Are the Afghanistan elections the most fraudulent elections held this year?

Question
http://news.antiwar.com/2009/08/20/afghan-election-marred-by-low-turnout-violence-reports-of-fraud/

Polls in Afghanistan closed today at 5 pm local time (8:30 am EST), following a one hour extension announced by authorities hoping to get the reportedly anemic turnout to a more respectable number. It does not appear to have been very effective, however, as the turnout has been quite a bit lower than officials had hoped.

Turnout was particularly low in the Pashtun-heavy south, a sign of Taliban strength in the region but also potentially a negative sign for President Karzai’s chances of winning reelection in the first round, as he was seen to need a significant Pashtun turnout to claim such a victory without a runoff.

Reports of voter fraud have also emerged, with one Afghan reporter saying that extra voting cards were available for as little as $ 8 a piece. The “indelible” ink which is used to prevent multiple votes is also easily washed off, according to reports.

The long-expected violence happened as well, with President Karzai reporting 73 attacks on polling places. Other reports have voters being hanged by Taliban and roadblocks keeping them from reaching the polls. Taliban also managed to shoot down a Chinook transport helicopter belonging to British forces in Helmand. The exact toll of the violence was difficult to ascertain, however, due to the government’s harsh election-day censorship efforts, but conservative estimates put the dead at 26.

The actual results of the votes are likely not going to be available for some time, given the remote locations of some of the polling stations. The US conceded that the vote did not go according to plans, but insisted it would not alter its policy of escalation.

——————-

The BBC sent undercover reporters to Afghanistan to attempt to buy voting cards. They found out just how easy it was to do so. (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghan_presidential_election,_2009#Election_fraud ).

Unsurprisingly, the Taliban seems to have done very well in its Super Bowl. Despite a media blackout of reports of violence, the voter turnout was still very low.

Yet, it seems that Obama will not give up his unwinnable war, even though it is now clear that the people of Afghanistan do not support the occupation of their country. Although many people compared the Iraq War to Vietnam, Iraq is increasingly looking like the New Korea and Afghanistan like the New Vietnam.

No…that would be the Iranian elections…

And, it didn’t even occur to you a LITTLE bit that a website called “antiwar.com” might be a tad bit biased in it’s reporting??

Answered by lemontree
Yes but they have never had a decent central government tru elections
Its a huge problem that will take years and blood the problem is we cant play dirty anymore due to Obama trying to avoid any scandal in Afghanistan which to libs on the surface is a great thing but if our troops are holed up in combat outposts and are not allowed to call in a airstirke because the Taliban are using civilians as shields, we are set up for failure plain and simple

What do you make of all these metaphysical predictions for the year 2012 A.D.?

Question
There are many metaphysical predictions for the year 2012.

Some are predicyting the end of the world, and others are predcting some great transformaion in human conciousness.

What do you make of all this?

Here is a list of themm found at Wikipedia in the article “2012″

2012 is sometimes claimed to be a great year of spiritual transformation (or apocalypse). Many esoteric sources interpret the completion of the thirteenth B’ak’tun cycle in the Long Count of the Maya calendar (which occurs on December 21 by the most widely held correlation) to mean there will be a major change in world order.

Accordingly, several eclectic authors claim that a major, world-changing event will take place in 2012:

* The 1995 book The Mayan Prophecies linked the Maya calendar with long-period sunspot cycles.
* The book 2012: Mayan Year of Destiny claims the Maya may have been instructed in their wisdom by disembodied entities from Orion and the Pleiades. Contact was maintained through shamanic rituals conducted in accordance with the movements of planets and stars. However, some Mayan priests living and working in Guatemala assert that there is no legitimacy to this theory.
* The 1997 book The Bible Code claims that, according to certain algorithms of the Bible code, a meteor, asteroid or comet will collide with the Earth.
* The book The Nostradamus Code speaks of a series of natural disasters caused by a comet (possibly as above) that will allow the third Antichrist to disperse his troops around the globe under the guise of aid in preparation for a possible nuclear war, although in the strictest sense it is unspecific as to nuclear war or some other natural or man caused destruction.
* The book The Orion Prophecy claims that the Earth’s magnetic field will reverse.
* The 2005 book Beyond 2012: Catastrophe or Ecstasy by Geoff Stray reviews several theories, prophecies and predictions concerning 2012 and finds where authors have used faulty information or have bent the truth to fit their theories.
* The 2006 book 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl by Daniel Pinchbeck discusses theories of a possible global awakening to psychic connection by the year 2012, creating a noosphere.
* The 2007 book Apocalypse 2012: A Scientific Investigation into Civilization’s End by Lawrence Joseph does not make any specific new predictions, but it reviews a number of 2012 predictions made by various sources, and presents arguments for the possible existence of dangerous positive feedback loops involving solar storms, Earth’s magnetic field, cosmic rays, hurricanes, global warming, earthquakes, and supervolcanoes that may be on the verge of erupting.

Other prophecies and apocalyptic writings and hypotheses for this year include:

* Terence McKenna’s mathematical novelty theory suggests a point of singularity in which humankind will go through a great shift in consciousness.
* Some proponents of a peak oil catastrophe place major events in 2012. Richard C. Duncan’s book The Peak of World Oil Production and the Road To The Olduvai Gorge claims that the Olduvai cliff will begin and permanent blackouts will occur worldwide. Several studies predict a peak in oil production in or around 2012. [13][14][15]
* Some alien-enthusiasts (e.g. Riley Martin), along with some new-agers, believe 2012 to correspond approximately with the return of alien “watchers” or “caretakers” who might have helped the first human civilizations with developing their technology and may have been waiting for us to reach a higher level of technological and/or social advancement. Beliefs range from the extra-terrestrials having benevolent purposes — such as to help human society evolve — to malevolent purposes — such as enslavement of mankind and/or manipulation.
* There is a Hindu following indicating the appearance of an Avatar (God in human form) with God-like powers who will herald a new age. A website to this effect appears at: End of the World 2012.

There could well be some truth in these ancient prophacies.
Although most christians don`t seem to read their book it actually give a date for the begining of the end events in Daniel. Thats probably too clever for most of them. So I`ll tell you Daniel says that the end starts in 2010 and he even give the day countdowns..

The book also say that there is nothing hidden that shall not be revealed, so Hay go read ypour book before making silly answers..!!

We’re already passed peak oil. I wouldn’t count on ancient civilizations being able to predict future events. If they Mayans could have foreseen they would be wiped out by the Spanish they wouldn’t have worried about the world ending in 2012. It’s no more likely than the world ending in the year 2000. Remember how many people thought that was the end? Don’t worry, be happy.

We are in the present times of our lives. Every action, every decision we make for everyday is our responsibility. So we must value every moment of it by doing our part worthily. Anytime death comes and that means, when it’s here, we are ready to face our Creator.

Indeed, we pray God to prolong our lives because we want to see our children grows and have better lives. And if we still reach year 2012 (and more years to come) …anything happens, we always carry with us GREAT FAITH in the LORD and nobody will harm us because HE takes care of us all the time.

I disagree with Mal777, so many people have been wrong, who would have thought that we could be talking from this far away just 15 years ago, even this was unheard of. Who would have thought that America would have become what it has, after all, we are one of the youngest nations compared to Russia and China….so in conclusion, I think that this many people could be wrong…

seeing as there is a chinese calendar which says it is year 4704, a jewish calendar which says it is 5674, and the gregorian calendar which is the most widely used, which says this is the year 2007. who says that that number is anywhere near correct, it is a bunch of bull crap made up by christians. the year 2012 means nothing in the eyes of the planet, for it is the year 4,247,682,007 some odd years old. Humans think they know and can predict things, but we dont know crap.
The only thing we truly know is that we know nothing for certain. 2012 will just be another trip around the sun, no biggie

  8. fluffy says:

Pretty scary list. That’s all it is,something to scare people. So,no I don’t believe in any of it. If I’m still here five years from now I’ll let you know if I change my mind. Have you ever noticed that every year there is some disaster that happens? California is on fire again, right this very minute. We had Katrina one year and a giant tidal wave in another. It’s always something.

  9. Morgaine says:

I’m hoping for a global shift in consciousness and half expecting the aliens that built the pyramids and the Nazca lines to come back.

  10. Lukusmcain// says:

I think man is already enslaved to the system. The theories are endless, but one thing we know for sure is that the first of the baby boomers will be retiring in 2011. The boomers are the largest educated generation to ever walk the earth. They have built our modern civilization. When they retire, they will be yanking their nest eggs out of the stock market. Think what havoc that will do. The U.S. economy is slipping badly now. I think it will be the end of the world as we know it. Infrastructure is as old as some of the boomers and crumbling fast. Cities will be impossible to live in soon, and with unstable weather, it will hurry the breakdown along. We won’t have long to wait.

  11. jpturboprop says:

Prophacy is an ancient and, perhaps, noble art. Having said this, it is not a science. You have completed an impressive review of prophetic speculation covering centuries, and I do admire your effort. However, given that prophacy is an art, not a science, I do not find your argument to be conclusive. Your argument reminds me of the argument of a gambler, who goes to the casino and says: 1. Someone has to win.
    2. No one has won recently. 3. I am going to the casino. Therefore, I have to win.
There are some steps deleted from both arguments.

First, you have relied on “experts” who predict disaster. You have not drawn on those who predict no disaster. You may ask, who is predicting no disaster? I would point to our capitalistic managers, the CEO’s of major industry, who are putting their money on the future, building production capacity, developing new products, and exploring new marketing techniques. They are predicting a vibrant, growing future, not a disaster. They rely on prophacy, too. Predicting the business environment five or ten years down the road is no more science than predicting a disaster…
Second, prediction of disaster is easy. Planes crash on a regular basis. I might go out on a limb, and predict that a plane with red paint on its tail will crash within the next twelve months. (Probably true, because the majority of commercial airliners have some red paint on their tail, and it seems a commercial flight is lost about every six months… not probably true because I am a prophet…) Prediction of cataclysmic disaster is difficult, because true cataclysmic disasters are extremely rare. Hurricane Katrina was catastrophic, destroying a major city. It was not cataclysmic, and may actually have contributed to the growth of the American economy over the past couple years. Weather forcasters using modern meteorological tools “predicted” this problem a few days ahead of time. Where were the prophets?
I do not believe any of the predictions you have listed have a basis in science. The fact is that these predictions have been made, but that, in and of itself, gives them no additional weight. I am much more optimistic about the future than those who have made the predictions you quote. Peace. Let’s hope the Prophets of gloom and doom are wrong.
