Breast Lump & Lymph nodes?

Question
I am undergoing treatment for breast cancer. In the last few days of January 2008 I noticed a lump in my breast – I called immediately to set up a mammogram. Mammogram was on February 1st, as I was leaving the mammography unit I called my OB and told them that I had found a lump and would need to come see them. I saw the Dr on February 6th. He felt the lump and stated it was about 4 cm and referred to it as the size of a golf ball. Said he would wait for mammogram result to decide if he was going to do anything but said most likely fibrocystic change and nothing to worry about. So I trusted him. At the end of June I noticed the lump felt larger and decided to set appointment to have it removed in conjunction with elective plastic surgery (breast lift). Figured best to have a surgeon who may be more careful about removal since it is a breast.
The plastic surgeon appointment was set for right after I got back from vacation on (August 7th or 8th).
The plastic surgeon said he could not remove the lump but could work with a general surgeon so remove it so that the cuts can be made by him to lessen the scaring and proceed with the breast lift.
Fast forward to August 12th. I am getting ready for work and as I put on deodorant I feel pain under my arm – decide this can’t be good and I call the OB office and tell them this, they say they will get with dr as soon as out of an exam room and give me a referral. 2 hours goes by with no contact from them so I go see my Primary care Dr who was willing to get me in right away and they immediately refer tme to a breast surgeon. Unfortunately the surgeon is on way out fo town and wil not have an appointment until August 29th. I call the ob back and again explain the issue – the fact that someone was supposed to call me back earlier and request a referral (this isn’t a stubbed toe) I am again told they will get with the dr when he gets out of the exam room. They did not call me back until 5:10 that afternoon.
I had called a friend of mine who has an ob as a friend and she told her OB what was going on and her ob said to give me 3 names of surgeons and if I am not able to book an appointment very quickly to call her back directly and she will call from her back office.
The next morning armed with the names I make calls and no one on the list has anything anytime soon. When I am on the phone with the last referred physicians office I ask if NY of their Drs has anything sooner and am lucky to find out that one does on the morning of the 15th. I go in and he immediately does a biopsy and schedules additional imaging tests. I find out a week later I have Triple Negative Breast Cancer.
Many people say the dr should have done a biopsy or additional imagine tests in February as this was much too large a mass to ignore and that it’s advancement into my lymph nodes probably happened in the last couple months. Does this seem likely or could it have been in my lymph nodes for 6 months without me knowing anything about it.

It could have been there that long. It starts as one cell in the node, and by the time you can feel it, it is millions of cells.

It sounds to me as if your OB dropped the ball, big time. To have felt a lump the size of a golf ball and not follow through, seems negligent at best. Possibly worse. Never see that man again. Talk to a lawyer about the possibility of a malpractice lawsuit. Seriously, I don’t give advice like that lightly.

The good news is that triple negative is often very responsive to chemo.

Sounds like you got a great list, I wouldnt scratch off anything. Except maybe the extra trash can on the porch..Just use your plastic bags from the grocery store and when you change the stinky diapers put it in the plastic bag twist and tie it up and throw it in your regular garbage, you will never smell it

baby monitor, a bouncy seat the seat you put them in that vibrates it’s the best invention when my son was a baby I would put him in it and he would sit for hours better then the swing sometimes, spit up rags or clothe diapers can be used for the same thing, and I’m sure when you get to the store you’ll see things you’ll want to. If you haven’t had your baby shower yet also think that you can get stuff at that time too..

If you have all new born onesies see if you can exchange them for bigger sizes. You will need more of the bigger sizes than the smaller ones. You can also reuse the outfits for bedtime instead of having nightgowns. It’s easier that ways sometimes. Then you don’t have to worry about packing extra clothes or making sure you get the right ones. You don’t need baby washcloths, “adult” ones will be fine. You just have to be gentle. And a night light isn’t necessary either, babies are used to the dark of your belly. If you really want a night light get one of the tap lights, that way you can have it on when you are in the room and turn it off when you leave. And I wouldn’t think you would need a whole extra trash can for diapers. See if the medical kit from wal-mart is cheaper anywhere else. I know that Target carries them as well and they price match now so sometimes it is easier to cut down on trips if you can just take the ad with you and get everything for the same low price. Also, sometimes it is cheaper to buy the items individually and not all in a pack. Good luck!!!!

alcohol pads on the cord is no longer recommended for newborns, its safer and more comfortable for them to let it fall off naturally with no assistance, just clean it with a warm wash cloth if it gets crusty. other than that the list looks good. :)

What does it mean when you have a sharp pain under your left breast that shoots up to your shoulder/arm?

Question
I’m 16 + i have since about mid-march been having really bad panick attacks. To where i think i’m going to die + tremors…etc. I also think i’m my heart is going to stop + freak out. The last attack was in the beginning of June…i called the ambulance b/c i was convinced my heart had stopped. They hooked me up to monitors + said that i was fine.

Since then…i’ve been having really bad random pains above my rib cage on the left side. I looked it up + it said that i could have PCS-Precordial Catch Syndrome. They listed things that i should look out for if its not that. I have almost all of the symptoms::
Chest pain that extends into the left side of the jaw or arm
a cough that produces phlegm
Extreme anxiety with the pain or a feeling of “impending doom”
Blueness or paleness of the lips or fingernails
An irregular, rapid, or pounding heart rate
Marked difficulty breathing or catching one’s breath

So, i really think that you could help.
Thanks.

First of all , stop trying to self diagnose, there is a reason doctors go to school for so long and specialize and it’s because the human body is extremely complex and when you add the way our brains work it’s just crazy to try to figure out on Web MD.

You could be having something as harmless but scary as chest wall spasms.

Go and talk to a doctor, or find a clinic that deals with stress induced physical problems. Or take a stress analysis test to see how you deal with stress, Stress alone can cause the symptoms you describe.

What your describing sounds more like thoracic outlet syndrome . There is a very large nerve in your chest called the thoracic nerve . Its the size of a thin rope , it runs to your lung threw your rib cage under your arm into your shoulder down your arm into the fingers . It also feeds into your face and neck . The nerve branches off to smaller nerves to feed your arms and into your face . When this nerve is impinged or being pressed on ( which it shouldnt be) you can get the feeling of severe chest pain , shortness of breath , the feeling that you cant breath , numbness in your arm down to your hands and into your jaw and face . It also can make your hand and fingers turn blueish , and cold . This can be brought on from an injury one that you may not even be aware of , the sudden jerking or pulling of your arm away from your body . A sudden jolt of your neck . A fall . The anxiety attacks are probably unrelated but may very much agravate the situation because breating rapidly will agrivate the nerve and cause sudden sharp chest pain causing severe anxiety . A neurologist or a hand suergeon can diagnose this . Therapy done by therapists trained in nerve injuries can help . Regular therapists will not be helpful if they are not trained in nerve injuries . No pain no gain is not the motto here . Any therapy that causes pain with a nerve injury will cause more problems .

When you are stressed it causes your body to act out in all sorts of weird ways. What you are most likely having is muscle spasms of your chest area, breast bone- rib cage, areas.

You need to believe in the Doctors that you are fine. Heart problems do not cause sharp shooting pains.

Why are you feeling so stressed to the point of anxiety? Let your parents know what’s going on and maybe speak to a therapist about your feelings. Stop researching because you will create more symptoms for yourself the more you read the worst case scenarios.

Try some yoga, exercise, meditation to help you get that stress out of your system. Once you believe that you are really ok, you will feel so much better. If you don’t, the symptoms will continue.

Stop getting medical advice from strangers on the internet and see a physician. Seriously; do it now.

Calling experienced doctors – symptoms list?

Question
Alright.

Was “with” the boyfriend the 23rd. Supposed to get my period a couple days after christmas (28th-ish). Around the 4th or 5th of January, I’m having cramps, slightly tender (and tingly but tolerable) breasts, acne like crazy (like never before!), hairier (it’s horrible!), nausea, very vivid and odd dreams, I can feel extra acid in my stomach, I’m peeing every two hours, and I’m strangely VERY gassy!

I am not asking you if I am pregnant. Obviously, you cannot tell me that! But according to when I was with my boyfriend and when I was supposed to get my period, today’s date, etc. does it seem to you that I am pregnant? And when should I test?

Thanks!

PS – By the way, I had no period after Christmas.

Answered by Mrs. Mendoza Due 9-09-09
Yes, it seems like you are pregnant. If you’ve already missed your period, then you can take a pregnancy test first thing in the am. Good luck!
Answered by dangle
Test within a few days of missing your period, assuming you have a regular cycle. Sounds like you could well be pregnant, and testing will confirm. Your symptoms *could* indicate other issues, but based on your timing, pregnancy is the most likely cause!
Answered by Tamra
i am no doctor, but i know cycles pretty well. I’m not saying FOR SURE, but you haven’t had your period yet and you had sex very close to when you were expected to have your period. Therefore, you are probably having a boy too.
Answered by Weenie W
you dont need to be a doc to tell your pregnant. you missed a period and you have all the signs. yes you should test.

Cocoa butter for your nipples, In health food store, Vitamin E cream for your stretch marks, if any. In pharmacy, one tube of ‘Zinc Oxide” or “Zinc Ointment”. this is for extreme, extreme diaper rash. It happens sometimes. Im sure you’ll use disposable diapers, right? But by some cloth diapers. Use them for over your clothes when you’re ‘burping baby’. Spit-up sometimes stains. If you have the space, get yourself an nice rocking chair. They’re cheap enough in a unpainted furniture store. Throw a couple of pillows on it, and mom and baby can sit and relax. Good Luck. Keep us posted.

Sounds like a pretty complete and solid list. I wouldn’t change it.

  3. Harvey L says:

Seems to me you are, you have all the right symptoms, and if your already feeling those symptoms, your body is obviously letting these horomones go, take a test and schedule to see a doctor with or without a positive result.

  4. katheriac says:

Take the test as soon as possible. It sounds like you’re pregnant. I’d say you have a little Christmas Eve Eve baby. :)
