Can my work refuse to pay me for an official firm holiday (i.e., Xmas) if I call in sick the day before?

My work has a policy that if you call in sick (unscheduled absence) the day before or after a firm holiday (like Thanksgiving, 4th of July, etc), you don’t get paid for the day off (even though you would have otherwise received pay)! Is that even legal in California?

paid time off is regulated by the employers policies not by law

Thats the way we do it at my company. If you call in sick before or after a holiday even with a doctors note I do not pay you. Its in the handbook which all employees sign saying they read the policy so they shouldn’t be surprised when it happens. This cuts down on people not wanting to work and have an extra long holiday.

You can update to OFW 6.20 to get all the additions or install CFW to get iso/csos, emulators and basically use the psp true potential.

The majority of employers work this way. If you take an unplanned sick day, the day preceding/ or after a paid holiday, you will not be paid for the holiday.
