Does anyone else wish that Paula Deen would lay off the sauce, eat a carrot and shut up?

Question
I know I can’t be the only one! She is loud, acts like she is three sheets to the wind all of the time, obese, doesn’t know how to cook and is slowly trying to kill America one Lb of butter at a time! What is to like?? I just don’t understand it. How does she have so many shows and spokesperson jobs?? (BTW: I also don’t like that she is Smithfield’s spokesperson). I Honestly think many of her viewers are making fun of her.

I’m alittle pissy and angry at her because I have never liked her or her high-calorie recipes but thought I’d see what all of the rage what about… BIG mistake! How the hell do you mess up banana pudding?? I mean really! Anyway, I had to rant.

Does anyone else feel this way?

… I also can not stand Rachel Ray! So feel free to leave any comments. Lol
I just wanted to add that she once refered to fat-free or 2% milk as “that diet stuff” in a disgusted tone. I thought someone would get a kick out of that.

Answered by Katie
I think its funny that she loves butter so much.
Answered by Oh well, too bad
lol I love you!
She is so loud and arrogant. She assumes everyone loves her. I can’t stand her.
I hate how rachel ray always says add some “evoo.” She adds that shit to everything. I wonder if she drinks it.

Question about gluten free cooking?

Question
My fiance and I just moved in together. He has celiac disease and he’s on a gluten free diet. I’ve never cooked gluten free. Usually he’s been the one thats been doing all the cooking but I think its time for me to learn how to cook gluten free. I have LOTS of dessert recipes. At first I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to use my recipes anymore but he told me that pretty much any recipe can be converted to gluten free. I know that I’ll need to use Xanthan gum when I bake but the question is how much would I need to use? I’m hoping somebody can help me. I’m going to post links to all the dessert recipes that I have in my collection and hopefully someone can tell me how much xanthan gum is needed for each recipe.

All you basically need to do is use this gluten-free flour blend to replace the wheat flour in the recipes:

2 cups rice flour
2/3 cup potato starch
1/3 cup tapioca flour
1 teaspoon xanthan gum

Combine all ingredients in large bowl; stir. Store mixture in container with tight-fitting lid; stir before using.

There are ways of baking gluten free without using xanthan gum. I used to bake for a health food store and we had many wheat-free recipes. What’s helpful is understanding that there are two basic categories in baking: those recipes that use yeast, and those that use baking powder, baking soda and the like. Whether you’re baking gluten free or not, understand that what works (flour-wise) for bread is not ideal for muffins, cookies, and cakes and vice versa.

There are many gluten free baking books now and you may be able to find one at your public library. Here is an example on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Best-Ever-Wheat-Gluten-Free-Baking/dp/1592331319

ALSO – something i learned only recently and have not had time to investigate but is truly facinating! I have heard that celiac disease is triggered by wheat that is processed in the usual modern way because the grain does not mature and ferment on the wheat stalk. Supposedly the old fashioned way of letting the wheat stand in the field does not trigger problems. The Amish still have their grain stand in the field. I learned this from a friend of mine with Celiac who at the time she told me was arranging to buy wheat from an Amish farm. There has also been some study done regarding wheat flour and fermenting it with the sourdough process. I have not had time to verify these two directions but i thought you might be interested. :)

Go get the book Blackbird Bakery Gluten Free (you can get it online) and then check out www.blackbird-bakery.com – the founder is celiac and lives gluten free. Great place to get amazing recipes – great food so neither of you miss out on taste, texture or appearance of the foods we all love.

Also the owner Karen will talk with you – just email her. She loves helping people out..

or Rachel Ray (cause she makes me laugh, she is nuts).

Is it proper to say I’ll have one of them or these?

Question
I want to make a wish list but I don’t want to always be wishing so I want to call it “I’ll have one of these” or is it “I”ll have one of those” or them”.

So far my list has these, them, those on it:

a car that is comfortable, runs well & looks nice

A trip to Paris

Go to see Paula Deen & get to have a free meal at her place so maybe I will be on her show in the audience at a table where we all get free meals.

A friend that lives nearby that would love to go places I like to go but they have a car & don’t mind driving & they have an indoor outdoor pool I am welcome to use all the time.

OK, sorry, I started ranting I suppose but this is so much fun! I just want to get the title of so I can get started. I am going to date it & do one each day & then as I get things I will know when I put them on the list.
BARB sometimes we have to think before we give. Especially if we are giving judgement or advice not asked for to someone. You have no clue what I do with my life. Even if I never did anything to help anyone else it still is not your business. This question was about how to phrase something & at this site we have certain rules. It’s ok to go out of our way to help someone but your answer is very insulting.

I have given so much my whole life to others. I gave to my son’s care & when he died I was burnt out. So now I am balancing things out by taking care of me. This doesn’t mean I don’t give a lot. I volenteer all my time & do not have a paid job. I will not say anymore to you but I just wanted to tell you this so maybe the next time you want to feel superior by putting someone else down you will stop & mind your own business. How is that for giving.

Answered by Barb
Whether is is these or those (probably these), it would be good to make another list titled:
“I’ll give one of these”
and list small things that you want to give each day, like –a smile to ……. –a word of encouragement to ……. –a helping hand to………… — an offer to do something for ……. –a card to ……….
In this way, you are more likely to grow into a mature giving person, rather than a self-centered taking person
Answered by Joe
Amusing little ramble…
The correct way to say it is “I’ll have one of these”, or “I’ll have one of the following:”

Those would be used for objects at a distance from the speaker (you).
Them is the “object” form of “they”

“These are nice.”
“Tell them they are nice”

Hope this helps :)
