I am planning my summer garden( Yes, I know its only January) and I was wondering if the Black Eyed Susan Vine would grow good against a south-facing, full sun fence. I always planted Morning -glories there and they grew wonderful, but this year I would like a change. Any other suggestions for a flowering vine to plant on that fence? I live in the upper Mid-Eastern USA.

It would be the perfect place to plant the black-eyed susan. I grow mine in full sun in the summer.

When you drive down the country roads, do you stop to pick the wildflowers or do you pass them by?

Driving on these country roads, it is common to see tiger lilies, daisies, and black eyed susans. And sometimes, the history of the area shows its face in the groups of tulips, and daffodils, that show the evidence of a once-loved flower bed where no house exists today. And roses. Everywhere.

I am always tempted to stop and pick these lovely flowers, but then feel guilty for even thinking of depriving someone else the beautiful sight of them.

I love stopping, walking amongst them and enjoying the moment. I have been known to pluck a flower or two if I ahve my dragon with me…he does love the the daisies and rose petals. BUt he’s only a baby dragon and doesn’t eat much.

It’s a little packet of wildflower premium mix of baby’s breath, cornflower tall blue, siberian wallflower, scarlet flax, lance-leaved coreopsis, rocket larkspur, CA poppy, annual indian blanket, rose mallow, perennial blue flax, mexican hat, black-eyed susan, shasta daisy, shirly poppy, catchfly. I just thought I’d try it on the side of my house facing south along the house where it gets sun all day.

I have tried those little packets of seed and it seems like not a lot comes up. For one thing, it is hard to recognize the wildflowers from weeds since there is no picture of what the sprouts look like and there is so much variety. Plant them in good weedless/seedless soil so that you know the sprouts are from your packet. And be sure to water. Good luck. I have had much better luck buying in larger quantity from Wildseedfarms.com. If I just plant a couple varieties then I know what is going on. Also, some wildflowers don’t bloom the first year so don’t be discouraged by that.

The ones that work best for me are coreopsis, shasta daisies, purple cone flowers and cosmos. Black eyed susans come up from nowhere all over the place on their own it seems.

I like the picture of you two holding hands, why not add some black eyed susans (rudbecia) in your mothers hand and one in your hair.
I think that if you have a high contrast copy photo done in black and white, that that could look cool and original.

You could do this and just have the flowers with some color.
I would think that a pose of you walking and looking at each other, smiling would be nice… probably without background.
Or you could have it done soft and in gray tones to black with highlights of white. (this is more common)

You need to find a good tattooer that has experience with portraits. And you need to have a good photo taken.
You can purchase high contrast copy film that will turn out only black and white when you get them developed. This type of photo is best done in bright light with dark shading.
This should prove fun to do, and you may know someone in the family or friend that could take it for you.
Take the pictures, and any other references or ideas with you to the tattoo artist, and he/she will translate it into a tattoo for you.

Led Zeppelin’s first album.
Many considered it “Bastardized Blues”…
This ground-breaking album was a very heavy version of blues-oriented rock (not that they inveted heavy metal – they just perfected it).

Nine Inch Nails – Pretty Hate Machine.
Industrial rock had been around, but never seemed to be as commercially successful as this one was.
A merge of rock and electronica that appealed to the masses.

And of course….Nirvana’s Nevermind
There were lots of of alternative bands beginning to emerge, but Nirvana certainly set itself apart.
Combining punk attitude with a rock foundation…Grunge was born…and hair bands died.

Prem Joshua – really good fusion artist, lots of eastern sounding music
Musica Celtica – celtic stuff just like you asked
Deep Forest – really good relaxing music
Bombay Dub Orchestra – more good relaxing stuff
Kitaro – japanese band, good relaxing stuff
Cirque du Soleil – sort of like kitaro
Abakus – other chill stuff, but a bit less than the others
Sound Tribe Sector 9 – also has some chill stuff, but most of it is more electronic/alternative, but its still worth checking out
Deepak Chopra – meditative music, really nice

these might be hard to find, but trust me they’re worth it!

Yeah, I’ve wondered about that too…

I don’t think she’s famous or well-known, this is all the information I could find on her:

“The lady on the cover of all the Celtic Woman CD’s and DVD’s was chosen as a physical representation of a Celtic Woman. She is beautiful yet mysterious, and her physical characteristics, Red Curly hair and blue/green eyes, are synonymous with our image of what a Celtic Woman should be. Celtic Woman has never released her name. But I was told by Chloe’s former tudor that the CW logo woman is a french model. Her real hair color is not red.

In my research back in 2006 I found that the image was very close to another album cover done years ago. The image is a copy of another artist but cant remember which one. Its possible it was used by KTel when Sharon Browne (who created Celtic Woman) owned the company before she sold it to David Kavanagh in 2004.

Oh and Lynn became a member LONG after CW was created. Lynn replaced Meav when Meav quit in July 2007. Meav’s departure is a long story. Anyone wanting info concerning that should contact me via email and I will give you the full story.

I’m pregnant– 11 days late and got a positive test on an HPT earlier this evening. Am going to set an appointment tomorrow with my doctor for Monday. (First day I can get in.) Anyway, I am a new mom and would like to know what should I expect and/or do during my early pregnancy months?

Currently I have sore breasts and awful cramps like a period. I feel sorta woozy and hungry a lot! I am 24 years old, engaged to my fiance of three years and we couldn’t be happier- I am nervous though!
Should mention that I am setting an appointment with my medical doctor to get a test done there/prescription for prenatals, then have him refer me to an OBGYN. I’m also a full-time Optician where I spent a lot of time sitting down, then getting back up, walking around a lot. I am a little over-weight, but I try to eat as best as I can– have always been a chubby girl. I can still see my toes (for now!!) Lol. But I definitely plan on eating better now that I found out I am pregnant.

How do you eat now? Does your diet include proteins, fruits, vegetables? Keep in mind that you’re not eating for 2 adults and your calorie intake only needs to increase by 300 during your 2nd and 3rd trimester. Be sure that you’re drinking the recommended gallon of water a day.

Be sure to walk at least 30 minutes a day, you can swim, you can take prenatal pilates, prenatal yoga.

Expect all sorts of “growing pains” your uterus is stretching, your round ligaments that hold the uterus in place are stretching. So long as your not having MAJOR cramping or bleeding its most likely chalked up to being “normal”

Any prenatal vitamin that you can purchase over the counter will suffice as well

Some things to know:

-When you schedule an appointment it could be anywhere from a week to 3 weeks until they see you. Unless you are high risk, they normally see you around 6 or 7 weeks.
-Enjoy being hungry right now while you can, because in couple weeks you won’t want food and you will feel sick.
-Start taking prenatal vitamins even before your Dr’s visit. Look for the vitamins and minerals online and make sure the prenatals you get in the store have the right amount (most do). Also get prenatals that have DHA in them, which help with your baby’s brain development. Once you go to the doctor you can either have them prescribe prenatal vitamins to you or you can continue with the ones you like best. They are all essentially the same, just make sure they have DHA or take a DHA supplement.
-First trimester isn’t fun but hang in there!
-I personally like the book What To Expect When You’re Expecting but there are many others you can get to read up on what to expect each week and month.

Other than that just take care of yourself! Congrats!

Well I can definitely relate to you! I’m 23 and pregnant,been with my fiancé for 6 years. I was very nervous about this pregnancy and still am (at 39 weeks). Just expect lots of nausea,weird random pains,and all the symptoms you are already experiencing. Start taking prenatal vitamins,ones with DHA are best because they help the baby’s brain and eye development. I didn’t get to find out what I am having,as the baby’s legs were crossed so that was a bummer…don’t be surprised if it happens to you. Don’t eat too much salt or you will swell up like crazy! Don’t panic if you spot after sex (normal during pregnancy). Don’t be afraid to call your doctor for anything,no question is a stupid question during pregnancy. Congrats and good luck!!!

Congrats. Eat well, first of all. Avoid processed food as much as you can, and make sure you are eating adequate protein, healthy fats, and plenty of whole grains, fruits, and veggies. Drink a lot of fluid. Expect a bit of nerves, and a lot of random worries. Start reading now – it will help you to know what you are going through and what is normal and expected. A good book is Great Expectations – it goes through week by week but also has a lot of useful information on newborns, working, family relationships, and so on. Also start looking into birth – The Thinking Woman’s Guide to a Better Birth is a good start. Learning about the process takes some of the fear and nervousness out of it. Of course make sure to do the basics of self care – no drinking, no smoking, avoid caffeine, get adequate rest, and get adequate exercise. Take care of yourself and you take care of your baby too. Good luck.

Ther’s even a secton for fathers-to be. There is also a website where you can connect with other mothers in your area, and ask an actual doctor. Thatis obly if Answers isn’t giving you the right answer.

I agree the timeline for pregnancy did confuse the hell out of me, too!! I just assumed it was the day that you could officially say “5 months or 4 months” Instead of “just starting my 5th month, or a full 6 months now”

I thought that this was a terrible book – focusing on many of the problems associated with pregnancy. There are so many more positive books that focus on the joy of the experience. Sure some pregnancy have problems, but that should be a conversation with your trusted doctor.

Go to the Columbia River Gorge and cool off at Multnomah Falls. It’s a very scenic area and you will actually cool off sitting by the falls. Another great place to visit is the Oregon coast. I especially liked Seaside, Oregon. Nice places, people, and beaches.

why not take up mountaineering? seems like you are really into this so start expanding your adventures. learn to climb, maybe do some ice climbing (something I would personally love to do next winter!!) or perhaps try canyoneering? that’s a really good adventure sport to get into because it combines lots of different aspects, climbing, rappelling, orienteering, and hiking. If you have a Sports Chalet close to you, you can organizine some classes through them, or you could check with REI if you have one of those close by.

How Do I Stay Positive in This Situation? I REALLY NEED Help PLEASE DON’T IGNORE!?

Ok, so about 3 weeks ago I was cookin my man his bacon, I thought I turned the burner off, but the high is right next to the off and I accidentally turned it on high. Next think I know my kitchen is smokin like Mt. St. Helens I run in turn the burner off, but it’s STILL smokin, so I pick up the pan, and when I open up the door the movement causes the searing hot grease to splash and COVER my right index finger. I was delirious with pain when my boyfriend took me to the hospital begging the staff to make it stop hurting. For the next 2 weeks it was up in the air whether it was a 3rd degree burn that needed skin grafts or just a very severe 2nd. This also occurred the week of my finals and since I’m in art school I was unable to do any of them w/ my hand disabled. Pain was my CONSTANT companion. Percocet stopped killing the pain so the put me on 12 hr. morphine and hydromorphine for every 4 hrs.

Now 3 weeks later I do not need skin grafts and have begun to ween myself off the morphine, the withdrawal is HORRIBLE!!! Goose-flesh, hot & cold flashes, nausea, running nose, shakes, aches all over, and to top it off I had to withdraw from the coming semester since I couldn’t use my finger and the joint is so stiff I can BARELY bend it!

The problem is my boy, he was SO supportive the first 2 weeks, but I’ve been miserable! I’m usually such a positive person, but this whole situation + the now withdrawals are just making it SO hard to be happy.

Today is a BEAUTIFUL day and we were driving around and I commented that the sun was making me SO hot and sick! My boy was like WHAT are you talking about it’s BEAUTIFUL outside, the leaves are changing, soon it’s gonna be snowing! These are the best days in the year, why you gotta ruin em like that.

I just sat there looked out the window and wanted to cry! I’m a REAL self-sufficiant person, “I” take care of him! I hate this I HATE IT!!! And I hate that he’s having trouble being around me since I’m always feeling like shit!

I’m not hurt by it, I don’t blame him! I hate being around people who are always miserable too! So I beat on myself even MORE! Asking him to be understanding for like 2 weeks is fine, but this is going on almost a month!

What do I do???? I’m hurting, I can’t go to school until January after I FINALLY realized what I want to DO w/ my life.

Normally he comes home to me all smiles and having nothing but good things to say! But I can’t lie to him, “how you feelin honey?” Like shit, like I’ve been feeling ever since I injured myself!

I saw this ruin my parent’s marriage because for years my mom never had ANYTHING good to say, my dad told me it got so hard to come home and just hear bad things.

I feel like my man is avoiding me, he ignores me when he’s home w/ his video games, works and goes out, like I said, I don’t blame him, all I do is hang around the apartment all day…

WOW that’s pretty intense. the only thing i can think of is that when he comes home even tho you dont feel good try not to tell him how bad you really feel. dont bottle up emotions but next time he asks how are you just say something like better that you’re here. and it’s not your fault that you had to be on such hard meds that it makes you feel bad, so dont beat yourself up. just ask how he’s been feeling and try to go out somewhere nice together with him. i’m sure if he really loves you he’ll be understanding

I think you need to sit him down and talk to him. Stress that you are not going to be like this forever and that you are just going through a period of withdrawal. When he comes home and asks how your feeling, just try to be a little more positive, obviously you can’t help if your sick and you feel like crap, but just say something like, “Okay.” instead of “HORRIBLE!”. I think he might feel like he is to blame for this in some weird way. Sometimes when your loved ones are hurting you try to convince yourself that they are not. When my brother was ill and in a wheelchair I tried to say to myself everyday that this is not happening and that it is not a big deal. When he complained I would yell at him and tell him to suck it up, but it was only because I thought if I felt pity on him it would make the situation too real. Your boyfriend is probably doing the same. He sounds like he really cares about you. I bet he feels horrible that this happened to you and doesn’t really want to admit to himself that you are constantly in pain. As I said, talk to him. Tell him that you will get better soon and that things will go back to the way they were. But, when you’re around him, try to be a little more optimistic, trust me it will make him much happier.

Have you considered going to a counselor? You have the withdrawal issue that is overwhelming to deal with. It sounds like you are dealing with it, but not emotionally. This would help you deal with your problems with your boyfriend. If he sees you are seeking help then he may tend to be more supportive. Maybe the school you were attending has some free counseling or even some support groups that you could attend.

I was arguing with someone over an event that happened in march 1983. I was adment that Mt St Helen’s erupted in March 1983. After all I watched on the news. I even read a national geographic article on it in 1983. In the article it told of the major eruption and how Harry Truman and a photographer died. I remember that I thought it was the ex president at first.
In 1980 I was 6 years old in kindergarten. When I read the magazine I did not need any help reading it. In 1983 I was 9 years and in 3rd grade. This was more plausible. Did they really report on the news in 1983 about this diaster? Did the article happen 3 years later?
I remembered it so vividly just the space shuttle challenger diaster January 1986. I remembered that without even looking it up.
I remember everything in my life so vividly why would I remember such a major diaster that talked about in school and on the news so wrong?
My dad did not even subscribe to national geographic until 1982. I read
them all the time from 9 – 14.
That is the only false memory I can recall. Isn’t that weird?
The odd thing is I remember the people being interveiwed about the volcano. They were wearing coats and there some snow on the ground. Does washington stay that cold in may?
I am a psychology major so I was trying to look at the psychology behind why of all my memories I remember one memory so wrong.

(No bashing please) This will sound weird, but IYO, what is Undertaker’s one most overrated match ever?

I’m a big fan of Undertaker, but even I have to admit his flaws. Either way, my own personal choice will be his match against Stone Cold at Summerslam 1998, which I just recently re-watched. I don’t know why so many people I came across with considered it as one of the best performances in either man’s career.

It was during the height of Austin’s popularity, he even had the Smoking Skull WWF Title belt. There were the usual Attitude Era match elements: a brawl, venturing out into the crowd, and outside interference (although Kane came out and just stood there, until Taker told him to go to the back).

In my opinion, it was a really sloppy match. Both men looked gassed not even three minutes into it. Austin botched a Stunner. Taker really botched a chokeslam, I mean really bad. At one point, the two were exchanging punches and Austin just fell on his *** without any evidence as to why. JR and Lawler covered it up by saying the two had bumped heads, although it was hard to see if they actually had.

Then there was the Taker leg drop into Austin through the announce table, essentially the main spot this match is remembered for. Taker clearly overshoots it, and you can see Austin moving pretty far across the announce table in order to compensate. The two pretty much just slide off the table as it never fully collapses.

Then Austin hits a half-*** Stunner to end it. And Taker pretty much pops right back up after the bell is rung and hands him the belt. Weird ending also.

So what garners this match the praise I have often heard throughout the years? In my opinion, the whole bout was sloppy and it seemed like Austin and Taker never clicked. I don’t think this match deserves to be called a classic or a legendary match, simply because it wasn’t. The ladder match between Rock and HHH before this deserved the classic label more.

I think both men’s later works with other wrestlers far surpassed this match and the feud as a whole. With Austin for example is his three Wrestlemania matches with The Rock at Wrestlemania 15, 17, and 19 or his match with Triple H at No Way Out 2001 and Kurt Angle at Summerslam 2001. And for The Undertaker’s example is his match with Randy Orton at Wrestlemania 21, Kurt Angle at No Way Out 2006, and Batista at Wrestlemania 23.

My pick would be The Undertaker vs Mark Henry at Wrestlemania 22.

When this match was first announced, I thought WWE were joking. Too bad, they weren’t. I was shocked when Vince said that he believes ‘Taker could put on a legendary match with Henry!!! The match flopped big time!!! Vince could have delayed Henry’s push and gave the title to Orton so ‘Taker could face Angle at WM XXII!!! Or he could have put ‘Taker in a program against Benoit from the start of the year!!! But, no!!! For Vince, ‘Taker vs dull giants is waaaaay more preferable than ‘Taker vs greats!!! There is only one good thing from this match, after 14 LONG YEARS, Vince finally realized that Taker vs boring giant mid-carders at WrestleMania should have never occurred in the first place. That’s why ‘Taker has had main eventers in his last 3 WrestleManias (although to be frank, 14 years feels a bit too late don’t you think?). And we also learned one other thing from this match, that no matter what, Vince’s love for giants will never cease to exist as long as his heart still beats. Truly a waste of another potential classic match against Angle or Benoit. By lightyears, this is the worst casket match of all f*cking time!! But WWE acted like this match is the match of the year!!

I don’t know much about stocks but… Say you buy a share for $ 400, and it splits and later you own about 200 shares, you now have $ 80,000 worth of shares right? Well.. How exactly would you get that $ 80,00 dollars immediately? Wouldn’t you have to sell all 200 of your shares of the company to get the $ 80,000 dollars(which takes time)? So if no one wanted to buy shares from you, the 200 shares is worthless right?

Another question…
Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin put $ 19,000 into microsoft. He use to own 34% of Facebook but then it dropped to 0.03% when another company invested $ 500,000. So my question is… The more shares the company sells, the less ownership you’ll have of the company? Not only that… How did his 0.03% go up to 5% when filing a lawsuit? That doesn’t make sense when you only invested $ 19,000 to a company that is worth billions now.

Also another question..
Why would you even want to own a portion of a company? Is there any real benefits? Say you own 5% of Facebook. What do you get from that 5%? Is that 5% JUST stock shares that you could sell?

Stock splits don’t increase the value.

If you have 1 share at $ 20 and it splits 2 to 1 you now have 2 shares at $ 10 each ie. the same $ 20 total.

You don’t make money from stock splits. In a 2:1 split you are pretty much just trading in 1 stock for 2 that are worth 1/2 as much. The market capitalization stays the same.

You can sell shares whenever you want as there is almost always someone willing to buy. Unless you’re trading millions of shares you won’t have a problem selling.

The 5% — percentage means votes, the more votes, the more the companies decisions are done in your favor, or your ideology of what will take the company forward most. (Some stocks do not offer voting rights, such as Schroders non-voting, in which case, you would be correct, but these stocks are rare.) It also means a greater fraction of the company, plus greater dividend payments (explained later.)

If a stock splits, the make it so you keep the same value, i.e – £10 for 1 share, if split, becomes £5 for 2 shares, you’re percentage ownership stays the same, as owning 1/10 shares is the same as owning 2/20 shares – all of the stocks would split.

His ownership possibly decreased as he SOLD some of his ownership to another company, that is something you may have to research, as I have no interest in Facebook (now owned by Google).

There are 2 MAIN ways of getting money out of stocks – The Most Common, Selling them. The Second: Dividends (a fraction of the profits), so technically you can get money from them by keeping them permanently – Stocks known for high & normally increasing dividend payments are referred to as ‘blue-chip’ (don’t ask me why!?!)

Finally, only ‘pink sheet’ (or commonly called ‘Penny’) stocks, have such low trade volumes that they’re hard to sell, you can sell things such as Microsoft immediately in normal market conditions, it is based on trade volumes.

You’re technically right, as if nobody wants to buy them, they have no TRUE value, much like everything – things are only worth what we are prepared to pay for them, and money is only worth something as we have a belief in its value, technically it is just paper.

I’m thinking not. NO video game will be as much fun as GTA San Andreas with the early 90′s feeling, the early 90′s radio station, rolling with the homies showing grove street colors, the storyline was amazing (GTA IV also had a good storyline), Playing activity’s like the arcades, pool and the ddr (only thing better if it had bowling in San Andreas), driving around Los Santos was fun and over at Sweet’s house shooting hoops. CJ was the best character. Hands down.

Now people talk about Saints Row but to be honest with you I’m not impressed with Saints Row.

Btw here’s a few things Dan Houser can think of when they add GTA 5 here in 2012.
- add a bowling alley (Which I guarantee they will)
- have the classic rock stations back or the old school rap
- have all the same features as san andreas including the GYM and cluck and bell was my favorite fast food place.
- have sweet, cesar and cj come back and have them as part of your gang since this will take place in the future.
- have more than one friend to hang out to go shoot pool, go bowling (excetra). Where in GTA IV you can only hang out with one friend at a time, where this one you can have up to THREE homies.
- Bring back the territories and the green for grove street

Why would Rockstar go backwards GTA has been slowly evolving. GTA V will be the best GTA so far just like GTA IV was the best when it came out and so on down the old releases. Rockstar keeps making GTA better and better.

No, I think GTA V will be the best GTA. So long as they don’t add some stupid cellphone that constantly rings/vibrates unless you turn it off… which then takes away content within the game. (Not that taking people out on dates in-game or trying to please your fat cousin was fun content).

Also, cheats. Cheats made GTA so fun. This bummed me out in GTA IV. I’m all for physics… but don’t remove fun cheats.

And also… 9/11 is in the past. It was over 10 years ago. Don’t let a bunch of dead extremist religious zealots affect our games. Let us fly planes. Who cares what CNN or FOX news will say… they need to pull the plugs out of their anus, or put one in… whichever calms them down.

Allow us to put our own music in at least the single player. Yeah, I get the whole legal restrictions with allowing personal music over multiplayer… but seeing as they are trying to be more realistic with the series …. why not let our character buy an MP3 player and put our own music onto it?

I think they would slide Thomas to the bench and start Noah at the 5, because Chris Bosh is a prototypical power forward, and making him play center might be the same effect that is Amare at center.

Regardless, I love Bosh in Chicago. They’ve been dying for a legitimate 4 forever, and Bosh is almost as good as you can get. The other place I really see Bosh going to is Miami, because I think a duo of Wade and Bosh will be as good as anything we’ve seen in quite some time.

It’s not that he left Cleveland that has people upset. It’s HOW. The whole look at me, rediculous promotional event on ESPN (who’s just as much to blame, they’re closer to friggin MTV now than a sports network) just reeked of attention whorism. If he had just gone about his business and signed with Miami and released a simple statement like “I just don’t feel Cleveland was the best place for me at this point in my career because of…” or whatever, it would have blown over pretty much everywhere by now (except maybe Cleveland, I’m sure he’d still understandably be booed there).

It was the rediculous over the top “show” that put him on the public’s shit list.

I have two small children so my crock pot is my friend. I am looking for yummy new crock pot recipes. Here is one of my favorites from Paula Deen. What is your favorite?
Pot Roast
1 (3-pound) boneless chuck roast
1 1/2 teaspoons House seasoning, recipe follows
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 onion, thinly sliced
3 bay leaves
3 or 4 beef bouillon cubes, crushed
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 (10 3/4-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup Chardonnay

Sprinkle roast on all sides with house seasoning. Using a skillet over high heat, sear roast until brown in oil. Place roast in a slow cooker, and layer onions, bay leaves, crushed bouillon cubes, garlic, and cream of mushroom soup. Add the Chardonnay and cover with enough water to cover all of the ingredients. Cook on the low setting for 8 hours.

House Seasoning:
1 cup salt
1/4 cup black pepper
1/4 cup garlic powder

Everybody cooks soups and stews in their crockpot. I wanted to finda new use:

My favourite summer recipe (yes it is winter but it is good to be prepared) for crock pots is to:
put sliced onion on the bottom,
top with chicken pieces and seasoning (pepper, bay leaf, cayenne)
top with water
cook on low for 5 hours (I have left it 9 before)
You now have cooked chicken that can go right on the bbq.

I hate cooking chicken on the bbq because to get the inside cooked you need to burn the outside.
But now I can get home through them on the grill with some bbq sauce and they are delicious and fast. (And you don’t heat up your house in summer.)

Slow Cooker Swiss Steak Supper
1 1/2 pounds beef boneless round steak
1/2 teaspoon peppered seasoned salt
6 to 8 new potatoes, cut into fourths
1 1/2 cups baby-cut carrots
1 medium onion, sliced
1 can (14 1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes with basil, garlic and oregano, undrained
1 jar (12 ounces) beef gravy
Chopped fresh parsley, if desired

1. Cut beef into 6 serving pieces. Spray 12-inch skillet with cooking spray; heat over medium-high heat. Sprinkle beef with seasoned salt. Cook in skillet 6 to 8 minutes, turning once, until brown.
2. Layer potatoes, carrots, beef and onion in 4- to 5-quart slow cooker. Mix tomatoes and gravy; spoon over mixture in slow cooker.
3. Cover and cook on low heat setting 7 to 8 hours or until beef and vegetables are tender. Sprinkle with parsley.

Slow Cooker Jambalaya
Make this Cajun/Creole dish as spicy as you like.

1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
1 medium green bell pepper, chopped (1 cup)
2 medium celery stalks, chopped (1 cup)
3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 can (28 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
2 cups chopped fully cooked smoked sausage
1 tablespoon parsley flakes
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper sauce
3/4 pound uncooked peeled deveined medium shrimp, thawed if frozen
4 cups hot cooked rice

1. Mix all ingredients except shrimp and rice in 3 1/2- to 6-quart slow cooker.
2. Cover and cook on low heat setting 7 to 8 hours (or high heat setting 3 to 4 hours) or until vegetables are tender.
3. Stir in shrimp. Cover and cook on low heat setting about 1 hour or until shrimp are pink and firm. Serve jambalaya with rice.

Tuscan Chicken (Robin Miller, Food Network)
2 cups sliced red onions
1 cup sliced fennel bulb
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (15-ounce) can white (cannellini) beans, rinsed and drained
1 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
4 (5-ounce) skinless chicken breast halves (with bone)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary leaves
1/2 cup sliced roasted red peppers (from water-packed jar)
4 cups chopped fresh spinach leaves

Arrange onions, fennel and garlic in bottom of slow cooker. Place beans on top of vegetables. Pour over chicken broth.
Season chicken all over with salt and pepper and place on top of vegetables and beans in the slow cooker. Sprinkle rosemary over chicken. Place roasted red pepper slices on top of chicken. Arrange spinach all around chicken.

Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours.

Baked Beans by Alton Brown
(I modify this to work in my crock pot instead of a dutch oven)

1 pound dried Great Northern beans
1 pound bacon, chopped
1 onion, chopped
2 jalapenos, chopped
1/4 cup tomato paste
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
Vegetable broth
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons kosher salt

Heat oven to 250 degrees F.
Soak beans in a plastic container overnight in just enough cold water to submerge them completely.

Place a cast iron Dutch oven over medium heat and stir in the bacon, onion, and jalapenos until enough fat has rendered from the bacon to soften the onions, about 5 minutes. Stir in the tomato paste, dark brown sugar, and molasses.

Drain the beans and reserve the soaking liquid. Add the drained beans to the Dutch oven. Place the soaking liquid in a measuring cup and add enough vegetable broth to equal 4 cups of liquid. Add the liquid to the Dutch oven and bring to a boil over high heat. Add in cayenne, black pepper and salt. Give them a stir and cover with the lid. Place the Dutch oven in the oven for 6 to 8 hours, or until the beans are tender.

I started to think of this the other day, and for my own pleasure I started to make this list of the most sampled and best sampled albums I’ve come across. 1 – In the Jungle Groove by James Brown: James Brown is probably the most sampled artist in the history of hip hop, so it’s probably only right to put him on the top. As far as I can tell this album really had most of Brown was about and it was made while he was at his peak of his career. The number of artists who’ve sampled this album is unprecedented.

@ittakesanation… – The reason I didn’t put those sort of records like “The Champ” and “Good Times” is because the albums and artists that made those tracks didn’t really have much of an influence outside of those songs (as far as I can tell),, so I considered that also. Both great tracks though. Same goes with a lot of random drumbreaks.

@Aaron B – To be honest I have not heard that entire album, I’ve heard a lot of various songs from Billy Paul over the months, but never took much time to pinpoint a particular release of his. As for the Persuasions, I wanted to include those singing groups like the O’Jays, Stylistics, Delfonics, and Temptations, but they didn’t quite make the cut and I’d put those groups over them.

I don’t think I can come up with ten. But I know Paid In Full by Eric B. & Rakim was groundbreaking. It was most likely the album that popularized use of the Funky Drummer James Brown sample. The Blueprint by Jay Z also had brilliant sampling too, in which Kanye used vocal samples that he would gain critical praise for. The Low End Theory was good too, cause of the found link between jazz and rap. Good list by the way. I couldn’t have done this.
