It looks like it will be either Bachmann, Perry, or Romney; is anyone else decidedly unenthused?

Question
Ron Paul will hang in there for a while, but we must be realistic about his chances. Pawlenty is decomposing. Jon Huntsman is dead in the water.

With Obama looking increasingly like Jimmy Carter, it looks like time for a Reagan to ride to the rescue by taking not just the GOP base, but the independent votes and whatever the “Reagan Democrats” this time will be. Somehow, neither of these candidates seems to have that type of appeal. Romney is a wishy-washy wonk. Perry talks a good game but can’t back it up. Bachmann–no, just no.

Can anyone better please come to the fore?
WWFUUJD, I really like Ron Paul and this he has many good ideas. I’d love to see him take up the Treasury portfolio in the next government and play a role in the reform of the financial system. However motivated his many supporters are, wishful thinking does not win elections, though. With the present field, I’m likely to vote for him in the primaries, but I doubt he has appeal enough to win.

Answered by WWFUUJD
You’re kidding yourself if you think Ron Paul hasn’t got a chance.

You can cross Bachmann off.

Even the Republican pundits are discounting her “victory” today.

I’m extremely indifferent, but mildly amused at this prospect.

Talk about giving the democrats another 4 years in the White House.

On the whole, I’d vote for Perry.

Vote for Jon Huntsman. His state, Utah, was FIRST in job creation, Utah reached unemployment levels of 2.2%, and it was named by Pew Research Center “The Best Managed State in America”.

This proves that Republicans are nothing but a bunch of snake oil salesmen.

Charlatans==everyone of them. Can’t stand them.

Texas has become a shithole after 16 years of Bush and Perry. Texas has an economic profile of a third world country. Texas was better off under the LBJ Democrats.
Answered by Incognito
Perry’s “miracle” is based on lies and propaganda.
Answered by Wyett M
I just can’t get over how someone wants to secede from America and then 3 years later wants to become president of it. That part of his record speaks volumes for what kind of patriot he is. And the fact that he spends millions of dollars a year to give health care to undocumented workers but than opposes Obama’s Health Care Plan that brings Health Care to all AMERICANS speaks to his hypocrisy.

I don’t think Bachmann will resonate with the voting public. Romney died last week with his “Corporations are people my friend” gaff. Perry will not stand scrutiny as people look at his flip flops as governor of Texas and his involvement with the Gore Campaign.

Huntsman is a decent candidate, but he won’t make a ripple in the extremist state of the Republican party.
As to the rest, I have relatives in Texas, they snort when they hear Perry’s name they think he’s a phony.

Hey, stop making fun of perry, what did you expect from a man that got almost all Ds in college, including intro to economics (the only economics class he took)

  7. Guardian says:

I’ll take Huntsman over Perry any day. In fact, if the GOP will give this independent voter John Huntsman as their candidate then the GOP will get my vote in 2012. If they nominate Perry (Bush II) then I will be forced to vote against Perry even if that means voting for a failed president like Obama.

But compared to Obama stats , perry is a true miracle worker
1 . 9.1% unemployment 9 16% true unemployed counting all the people who ran out of benefits
    2. lied about Gitmo
    3. lied about transparent govt (health care)
4 Worse race relations in 40 years( not bringing people together as promised.
5 Out spent all presidents in past 100 years
    6. More would be felons and tax cheats working in his cabinet then ever.
    7 . etc

  12. James L says:

    Statistics mean nothing without context.
The vast majority of your numbers can be accounted for simply by the high number of recent immigrants living in Texas. Perry has been soft on illegal immigration, but there is not much a governor can do when the federal government refuses to enforce immigration law and prohibits the states from doing it themselves. Perry has some problems, I don’t care for his crony capitalism and pay to play politics, but don’t start insulting Texas. Every state has it’s own unique problems so numbers can never tell the whole story. And by the way, spending more money on stuff does not automatically make it better. Dead last in spending sounds like a good thing to me. Obama is number one in spending money and that doesn’t make him great.
