Who had the greater career so far, Ernie Els “Big Easy” or Phil Mickelson “Lefty”?

Question
Height/weight, Ernie 6-3/210 Phil 6-3/200
Age, Ernie 38, Phil 37
career earnings, Ernie $ 46,064,819, Phil $ 51,416,462
Majors won, Ernie 3, Phil 3
Total tournaments won/PGA won, Ernie 59/16, Phil 40/33
both super great guys with some awesome talent
Pretty tight race huh? Phil have more money, Ernie more victories…….are PGA wins worth more prestige because of bigger purse?
Please come up with some intelligent motivations!!
Answered by seth w
Let me begin by saying that I loathe Phil for reasons I will not get into, but I would have to say that he has had the better career. I think this because despite Ernie winning more tournaments, Enie has not done much lately. I know he was hurt for a while, but Phil has consistantly been in the hunt in since Tiger took off. Phil has been the only one to challenge Tiger week in and week out and many of Ernie’s victories were in the 90′s and on foreign tours.

Don’t think your use of” motivations” is correct but nevertheless, both careers are good for today’s competition. Whether one has victories around the world because these were the ones Els played, or Stateside victories for this was Phil”s domain, the competition was always keen, there were always contenders vieing for the win. Els has the swing I would prefer to see emulated, but Phil does very well when he keeps his under control.

Who you pickin for the Masters this weekend? And will they go on to win the Grandslam?

Question
I got PHIL MICKELSON
but I don’t see him winning the Grandslam, i don’t think it will ever be done in this age of golf
Answered by pgarox
Phil Mickelson.

And, no, there will be no Grand Slam winner this year.

Answered by BamaGolfer
Hmmm, of course i’ll go with tiger as the favorite, but there are some players that are definitly on fire right now, such as Oglivy and Wagner, and of course the under the radar players, such as Singh
Answered by Joe H
you gotta take Tiger, for a darkhorse im taking JB Holmes
Answered by DrBopp
Tiger Woods.

I say that he doesn’t win the Grand Slam, but wins 3 of 4 putting him at 16 and on track to catch or pass Jack in 2009.

top contenders for this year’s grand slams?

Question
1. tiger woods: perennial favorites for every slam
2. sergio garcia: almost beat woods at age 19
3. ernie els: the best golfer of the generation not named woods
4. davis love III: one of the best, too bad he’s a choker
5. vijay singh: very consistent
6. phil mickelson: getting better. used to be a choker
7. retief goosen: steady player with multiple slams
8. colin montgomerie: great player, getting up in age
9. david duval: always a threat when he plays
10. john daly: ditto

honorable mention: justin leonard, chris dimarco, fred couples, padraig harrington, corey pavin, greg norman, mike weir, tom lehman, kenny perry, lee westwood, jim furyk, steve stricker, darren clarke, michael campbell

Anthony Kim anyone?

I like Tiger, Sergio, Anthony, Phil, Vijay, and Goosen. DL III is playing better, which is good to see,

My bets would have to be on:
Masters @ Augusta: Tiger as he already has a few of those Jackets.
U.S. Open @ Bethpage: Tiger, or have we forgetten he was the only person under par last time the Open was at Bethpage…
Open Championship @ Turnberry: Now this is a tough one. Harrington for a 3-peat? Tiger? Norman 23 years after his first? I’ll take D: Sergio.
PGA Championship @ Hazeltine. Again, hard to say. Rich Beem won the last major here in 2002. Time for another “unknown” to win. Although he is well known, I’ll take the youngster, Anthony Kim.

There you have it. Tiger, Tiger, Sergio, Anthony Kim.

PS. I am taking Tiger at the 2010 U.S. Open as well, it returns to Pebble Beach.

Tiger is the favorite but will not win. I think KJ Choi will breakthrough and win a green jacket.

Brandt Snedeker is my dark horse pick.

No grand slam – 4 majors, 4 winners this year.

Besides one of the Big Names like Phil, Tiger or Vijay, I like peter lonard.

  3. Yannis M says:

Its hard to go against Tiger the way he’s played this year and realistically if you are talking Grandslam you must be talking about Tiger because no one but him has the control of the game to actually pull it off. That said I do not think he will win the grandslam this year but he will win 2 of the majors. I think Ernie Els will win the Masters if Tiger does not.

  4. nkf711 says:

    NO GRAND SLAM.

You gotta go with Tiger. Weather is shaping up great for his game.

    Other good chances:
    1. Phil
    2. Arron Baddely: His game is made for this course, He loves the battle, If his putter is on he can take it.
    3. Sean O’Hair: May be the best palyer from 150 in right now.
    4. Geoff Oglivy: No one is hotter right now, not even El tigray.

    If weather is an issue:
    1. Jim Fyruk: He will beat the pants off of you, great shot maker.
    2. Paddy Harrington: He plays better in the nasty than when its nice outside.
    3. Mike Weir: Will need the help of the weather (wind) to win in Augusta ever again, but he is playing very well.

    Dark Horses:
    1. J.B. Holmes: Playing great, huge off the tee, but 1st time at Masters.
    2. Bubba Watson: Getting better. The longest from the Tee box in the feild. Like to shape shot (needed at masters) Also popping his cherry at the Masters.
