What you think of this article and Summary it?

Question
Aug. 21–The Air Line Pilots Association on Monday asked the National Mediation Board for an election to decide if SkyWest Airlines pilots want to be represented by the nation’s largest airline pilot union.

ALPA decided to seek an election after receiving enough interest from SkyWest pilots in joining the union, ALPA said in a letter mailed to about 2,700 aviators.

It isn’t clear how many pilots have signed cards authorizing the union to request a collective bargaining vote. On Monday, ALPA spokesman Pete Janhunen refused to reveal the number because the union doesn’t want to tip its hand to the company.

Over the past year, ALPA has said it had obtained authorization cards from more than half of St. George-based SkyWest’s pilots. But it declined to approach the mediation board until at least 70 percent had indicated their support for a vote.

“We think we are going to win the election. ALPA doesn’t play to lose. Our senior leadership and the [SkyWest pilots] organizing committee agree that the time is right to file the cards” with the mediation board, Janhunen said.

SkyWest spokeswoman Marissa Snow said the airline would not comment because it had not been informed by the union. In the past, the airline has said it is opposed to a pilots union.

“We haven’t been notified of anything of this nature, so I can’t really speak to the topic,” Snow said.

SkyWest pilots are the largest nonunion group of commercial aviators in the country, according to ALPA.

The rapidly growing regional airline flies passengers for Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and Midwest Airlines. It has hired about 2,000 workers this year, including hundreds of pilots, and has plans to hire more to keep up with growth.

In the letter to pilots, ALPA said the mediation board will hold the election after it compares the authorization cards with company employment records to verify the showing of pilot interest in an election. The board also will put together a list of eligible voters. That should take 60 days.

The board will then mail confidential telephone voting instructions to the pilots, who likely will have 30 days to cast their ballots.

Janhunen said pilots will vote on two questions — whether they want a union to represent them and whether that union should be ALPA. Simple majority votes are required, he said.

ALPA hasn’t detected widespread dissatisfaction with SkyWest, Janhunen said. Instead, SkyWest’s rapid growth has made pilots feel uncertain about their jobs, he said.

“Usually, in this kind of case, [pilots] realize they don’t have an enforceable [labor] contract, they don’t have an agreement that guarantees any aspect of their careers,” he said. “There comes a point for pilots when scraps from the master’s table are no longer a sufficient diet.”

The union’s reluctance to pursue a vote until now may be based on past failures by pilots to affiliate with a union. An effort in 2004 failed when only a third of eligible pilots voted for an in-house association to act as their bargaining agent. An organizing drive by ALPA in 1999 also failed.

In May, a federal judge barred SkyWest from interfering with organizing activities by the SkyWest Pilots ALPA Organizing Committee. The association won a restraining order blocking the airline from preventing pilots from posting and handing out literature and wearing ALPA insignia on pins while on duty.

1st of all, you’re not overweight. you have a perfect weight, you’re not even close to being overweight. 2nd, if you lose down to 110lbs you will be considered underweight, please don’t go under 120lbs for health reasons. 3rd, if you want this so badly then it is worth it, it’s up to you, but do you think it’s fair they are making you lose weight to do this, there is other modeling places you will find that will be happy with your healthy weight and won’t want you to be super skinny, but by the end of the day, it’s up to you, think about it. wish you the best.

…. Hey, let me help you out : )

……Wow you must be very beautiful, like your mom …. and your a perfect / healthy size according to the BMI calculator ….. this is where you need to be careful though …. the model industry can make you very self critical ….which is dangerous, especially if your in your teens… a time of life when you can be intensely self critical ….okay here are some tips …. as an ex ballet dancer, i kinda understand what you are going through : )

1….You need to reach a stable weight that you are happy / confident being …. and one that is healthy …. from my calculations, you can only drop 5 pounds …. otherwise your body go into starvation mode (This is why models die … because they consume So little fat … of which the heart needs a layer to function…that they have heart / organ failure ..)

2….As a model, you dont want to loose weight …. then not be able to maintain it … then end up gaining weight and yo-yo-ing …. as this will make your skin sag prematureley ….because your facial skin has a layer of fatty tissue, keeping it looking plump and healthy …. if you ‘yo-yo’ diet this fat will be depleted (be used elsewhere in the body, to make up for the lack of fat you are consuming) …. then when you start eating more … will build up again … then be depleted etc …. this causes sagging and premature wrinkling ….Which is what you dont want, if you intend to have a long career, which it sounds like you could have :) So heres what you need to do : ) x …

3.. Dont weigh yourself (this can make you have unhealthy thoughts …”if I just lost one more pound”) use a tape measure to see the truest results …. cut out all processed foods … buy plenty of sugar free (yummy) fruit juices…which you can drink as snacks if you get hungry … this will make you have fantastic skin … follow a diet which will make you super healthy and have fantastic skin …. a diet based around fruit, veg and protein would be fantastic … and to help your legs, run for 30 mins (no longer as you dont want too much muscle tone) in the evening and do 10 stomach crunches (this will over time make a huge difference .. and give you the perfect balance of muscle tone)

4 … okay diet tips …. for breakfast …. eggs are fantastic and maybee some ‘spelt’ / rye bread with a little peanut butter (high protein – high healthy heart fats) … and a pint of water …then lunch …. avocado is amazing for skin … or turkey (which is amazing for your skin and hair) ….with some veg … or maybee a quick stir fry …. then dinner …. i used to love baked sweet potato (high in vitamin A … boosts collagen production and is super low in fat) with a little dressing and and maybe some turkey or veg ….

5…the cave man diet is a great rule … basically if it didnt exist (1,000 years ago!!…i.e. crisps, chocolate) then dont eat it …. anything else …. veg, fruit, meat. and some carbs like wholegrain bread …are perfect.

6…never take diet pills … as they are So bad…. here are some healthy tips …. green / white tea …heightens your metabolism …. maybee make some the night before, add some peach juice … and a little honey …. keep in fridge … have chilled ice tea all day long : ) …. coffee has a similar effect but, is really bad for your skin …. or cider vinegar … one spoonfull before dinner will increase digestive juices and make you process and burn weight quicker : )

GOOD luck girl : ) x x x

I’m currently trying to lose weight for modeling as well and I’m also trying to decide whether or not it’s worth it cause I need to go from 112 to 100. I think if you feel like you really want this then you should because if you don’t then you’ll regret it. If you really don’t care then don’t do it. Good luck :)

youre only 13. therefore for someone your height your weight is good.

i dont think dieting would be good for someone your age.

plus, if you really do want to diet, 110pounds is way too skinny for someone your height. im not kidding. even for a model. i think 120pounds is the perfect weight if you REALLY have to lose it.

but no. you are SO not overweight.

ofcource its worth it honey

personally i don’t think you should model for someone who tells you that you need to loose weight when you are already in really good shape. From what you say it sounds like you already have a perfect body. Don’t let people make you loose weight to model, they don’t know true beauty if they are making you loose weight when your already thin!
Answered by Hachi
You are trolling or just ignorant on the topic. I know for a fact that models cannot be that much underweight. They would kick you out. They want toned models not sickly ones. I bet if you went under 120 they would not sign you on. Many of the VS models are about 5’11 and weigh 130 pounds which would put your bmi the same as theirs if you were 120 which is about 18.5. Also you are not overweight and for diet eat fresh foods and eat about 1400 calories and exercise and tone your body using weights.

No you are not overweight.

Just to warn you though, if you are really going to into modeling be prepared to be at least 90lbs. They will always be a chance that they will ask you to be in those triple 0s. You might just be better off getting a real job

Answered by orangebunny
if modelling is something you really want to do, then you should at least give it a try. but keep in mind, your measurements sound healthy, it’s definitely not worth putting yourself in danger for a contract.

good luck :)

I think that it is worth it! Go for what you want in life.. I did a little bit of modeling and when I did I weighed what you weigh. 130. I lost about 20 pounds and I felt great and the company loved the new look. You are not over weight though. The company just wants to see how you can care for yourself and see what you can become in the modeling world. Trust me it is SOOO worth it. I ate right though. I never ate breakfast though because when I eat in the mornings it makes me sick. So I skipped breakfast and I would workout a little before school and I would eat a little for lunch. Enough to make me stay healthy and I would work my butt off. I would eat just a little for dinner too. Throughout the whole day about 1500 calories is what I would take it but I would also work it all off leaving me with only about 500 calories.. I hope I helped somewhat I was never really good at giving advice goodluck! :)

You need to GAIN weight not lose weight if your measurements are 29-25-32

Your measurements need to be within 1″ of 34-24-34 to fit into sample sizes

That means your bust needs to be 33-35″, your waist needs to be 23-25″ and your hips need to be 33-35″

You are too small and losing any weight will make you even further from the requirements for modeling

You probably need to gain about 5lbs to increase your bust and hips. If you lose any weight you won’t have any chance of modeling. They can’t put someone with a 29″ bust or 32″ hips into a garment cut for 34″ bust and 34″ hips – it would be too big on you

I’m 13 but am a guy. Truth is if you think your over weight your not but if u think u are this will likely to happen is u grow into your weight. I know a few people that it happened to.
Dieting tips: excersise on a treadmill, believe me I play football and will shed pounds right off.

Overall u stay in sports and all those other activities u should have no problem becoming a model.
Don’t let others tell u what u are u seem great according to me.

  3. Sam says:

This is a hard choice to make a 13. While you’re seduced by the glamour of modelling, you can’t know what things will be affected by this choice.

The first thing you need to consider is the negative aspects. Not fun, but this is your life so you need to consider these, because they could affect you in the long term.

I am not saying modelling is horrible, but I just want to point a few things out to you:

You will constantly be told “you’re not thin enough”, “you’re too thin”, “not the right look”, “you’d be perfect if you had a nose job/bleached your hair/cut your hair off/had different knees”, “not european enough”, “too pale/too dark” etc etc. You’ll constantly be told negative things about your appearance, and it can really get to you after a while. This can lead to depression or substance abuse (and whilst you’re young and think you’d never go down that path, drugs and alcohol are every where in the modelling world.

Uncomfortable shoots. Modelling clothing means doing it a season before, therefore you will model summer clothes in the cold and winter clothes in the heat. You may need to do all sorts of things that you’re not comfortable doing.

Being underweight can cause a myriad of health problems.

Also, modelling is not forever and there are plenty of girls out there wanting the same thing as you. It’s very competitive. Do modelling for fun – if you ever start to hate it – QUIT. Make sure you concentrate in school so you have something to fall back on once you’re too old to model.

Sorry to be the boring voice of reason, but I hope you seriously consider these things – really actually think about them.

And personally, I don’t think a 13 year old should diet unless they are morbidly obese and their weight is a health risk. You are a healthy weight.
